CLAY GUILD OF THE CASCADES
GENERAL MEETING - SEPTEMBER 15, 2005

Attendance: Linda Heisserman, Bob Sant, Helen Bomarito, Diana Popp, Steve Provence, Connie Thornberry, Jolene Cap, Carla Hall, Vania Setti, Carlos Setti, Chris Moore

Agenda:

Empty Bowls

Helen reported the glaze party held on September 14 went well. Approximately 400 bowls were glazed and one load was being fired while the meeting was held. Some finished bowls have been donated and others should be turned in by October 1.

Wildfire

Jolene reported that not all bills have been received so a formal report is not yet compiled. $15,000 was the figure for total sales. All deposits are being refunded to the artists. Checks for those present at the meeting were
distributed; the rest would be mailed. Jolene suggested there should be enough funds for education events and expenses for next year's showcase.

The consensus was that a gift should be given to the person who helped with the phones and the Powell Family.

Linda suggested funds be used to support community education events similar to what OPA provides. Artists would be paid to provide workshops for Girls and Boy Scouts, Bend schools and the Senior Center for example. At this time the guild is waiting for someone to step up and chair the Clay in Education committee to work on guidelines and processing application to teach.

General Suggestions

Bob suggested for better communication the guild consider setting up a Blog site.

Linda gave a website address ( www.craftemergency.org ) for potters to respond to the Katrina disaster by providing housing for displaced potters. Donations are also welcome.

Don Sprague Workshop

To be held the weekend of November 4th and 5th. 15 is max participants, 10 participants are needed. 6 have paid and several others have verbally committed. A special session for high school and college age students is being organized for a minimal fee. Saturday and Sunday for adults:

Tuition, $100 for members, $125 for non members. It was suggested that at some future time CGC might provide scholarships. It was also suggested that the sessions be video taped - Linda would ask for permission. For applications contact Linda at linheiss@msn.com

Sister City

Bob reported on Condega, Nicaragua, Bend's Sister City. Condega means city of potters. He reported that the pottery is done by the women in the village. Others in Bend are collecting the funds needed to support placing
a fire station in an area to help control wildfires. Bend Brewing Company is donating to the effort through beer sales and suggests that potters might provide steins to sell as well. Bob would provide a stamp with a logo.

Contact Bob Sant at 389-7745 or Vania Setti at 317-1154 for more information.

Bob suggested that we also check out Potters for Peace, an international potters group that makes water purifying systems out of clay, for ideas where we migh help check www.potpaz.com

Other

Linda asked for suggestions for activities that the guild might participate in other than Wildfire. Some suggested: time for sharing techniques, studio tours, sending tips and tricks to the Blog website and the newsletter, continue mini workshops, compile a catalogue of studios for
studio tours and sales.

Vania suggested Kevin Hallock for a workshop next summer.

Diana offered that there will be a holiday sale event at the Senior Center on November 15 - $30 per table.

Bob showed a computer slide show of Wildfire.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 pm. Thanks to everyone for the potluck
