Clay Guild of the Cascades March 10, 2008 Attendees: Janet Matson, Bruce Hoefer, Nancy Daser (sp?), Kelly Hoefer, Diana Popp, Bill Earhart (sp?), Shelly Cline, Ron Skoog, Joan Fisher, Jolene Cap, Norman Frater, Linder Heisserman, Helen Bommarito, David Warren.
Committee reports: Treasurer’s report:
Webmaster: (www.clayguildofthcascades.com) David has received some information regarding updates, but asks that if anyone’s work is not currently on the web site, and they want it to be, send David images to post on the site. The Guild can also put a link to individual websites if anyone wants them. Workshop: We had successful workshops for the past three years, where we brought in an artist who conducted a two day workshop. Helen is working on settling on a date (in the fall) and an artist. Jolene indicated that we have actually brought “world class” potters in. The workshop is at the college, which gives us the room for free, and we don’t charge the students for the workshops. They will be all day Saturday and all day Sunday. It is break even for the guild. Wildfire: Linda indicated that all of the committee jobs are covered. The date has been set for November 8-9, the drapes have been ordered, and there’s info on the website. Linda is the Sponsor chair, and the “Roundhouse Foundation” in Sisters likes to support things that deal with education, and public art. Linda is trying to get money for the kids area and also for a microphone. Linda is trying to get some advertising money, but they are reluctant to do that. Linda would like new ideas for sponsorship. $500 will get their name on the poster. Certain levels get you a certain amount of advertising back. The Bulletin has done a great job of getting us into the “Go” magazine. What we really need the money for is advertising promotion. Question arose as to the deadline for getting on the poster, and David indicated it would be about 2 months to 6 weeks, but Linda would like information about 3 months before the date of the show. Linda asked if anyone knew anything about wearable microphones for the person doing the demo, and David has indicated that he has looked into that. OLD BUSINESS: Annual dues are due. The dues are $25 annually. An application, and where to mail the check is on the web site. EMPTY BOWLS: Local potters or wood people or glass people donate bowls to be sold to raise money for the hungry. The past few years, we have been instrumental in not only providing bowls, but actually running the event. We will not be running the event this year, but Jolene has met with Holly Hutton of Neighborhood Impact, but NI has not decided anything yet including where to hold it, the date, a throw-a-thon, etc. Janet happened to be at Cinder Cone when Holly and a gentleman from Washington State were there, and indicated that the date they chose was the Wildfire date, so Janet let them know that the date they chose was not optimal. NI may choose the 1st or 3rd weekend instead. Norman reported on his clay purchase – he got one pallet delivered from Clay Art Center in Tacoma. Every type of clay that was ordered was approximately $6.50 per bag including shipping. So there is a significant savings. Another sculptor has ordered another 1,000 pounds, and Norman ordered 1600 pounds, so there’s one pallet of clay. The pallet ended up over by Empire, where there is a truck. Susan Adams will need some more clay soon, so if anyone else wants to order, let Norman know. Norman passed around the catalog. NEW BUSINESS: Board meetings are on the even months and general meetings are on the odd months (the second Monday). Deb Sether asked that the upcoming classes at the Art Station be announced. Helen read the list of classes.
