CLAY GUILD OF THE CASCADES
GENERAL MEETING - November 10, 2005

The potluck meeting was held at Mike and Michelle Gwinup's home and studio.

ATTENDING

Mike & Michelle Gwinup, Wendi Steele, Connie Thornberry, Chris Moore, Steve Provence, Peter Meyer, Justin Liversidge, Kristi Teasdale, Jolene Cap, Linda Heisserman, Diana Popp & Eleanor Murphy.

Linda led the meeting. Diana filled in as secretary.

First motion: To accept the meeting notes from the Sept 2005 meeting. Motioned was seconded.

BYLAWS

1099s will need to be sent out for 2005 sales. Once the bylaws are passed, CGC can get a federal identification number, which is necessary for the 1099s. The bylaws were e-mailed to all of the members for review. If any changes need to be made to the bylaws in the future, a proposal can be brought to the board, who will bring the proposal to a general meeting for a vote. The bylaws were put up for a vote and passed unanimously.

TREASURY REPORT

Jolene presented the treasury report. CGC has $1,028.41 in the account.

After CGC bills COCC, we will break even (or better) on the Don Sprague workshop. Students from Bend High School, Sisters High School and students from COCC attended the workshop on Friday, November 4. Eleven people attended the Saturday & Sunday workshop, Nov. 5 & 6. The workshops were filled with great information, ideas and special "tricks," and appeared to be very well received and helpful to attendees.

CGC broke even on September's Wildfire Pottery Showcase with $212.53 "seed money" for next year. (Total expenses: $5,957.51; Total income: $5,744.98; Net Wildfire income: $212.53).

Total for all CGC programs and events so far in 2005:

Total expenses: $7,354.10; Total income: $8,382.51; Net income: $1,028.41

WILDFIRE POTTERY SHOWCASE DATE

Discussed the best timing for the showcase, taking into consideration other competing events, tourist and artist attendance, etc. The group decided on an opening reception Friday night, August 25, and open on Saturday & Sunday, Aug. 26 & 27. Moved and seconded.

BOARD NOMINATIONS

CGC has been around one year. Linda's term as president will end at the end of 2006. Connie Thornberry, current "President in Training" is not able to fill that position in 2006. Also, once we get going, half of the officers will go off the board each year. So, we need people to step up and put their names in for board membership. Without that, CGC will cease to exist, which would be sad. So sign up. CGC will need nominations for the following positions asap:

1) President elect

2) Secretary

3) Treasurer in Training

4) Newsletter

5) Wildfire Chair in Training

Please send nominations to Linda at linheiss@msn.com Thanks. Voting for board members will happen in January.

POINT SYSTEM

The group briefly discussed some of the pros and cons of OPA & Local Clay's point systems. The board will work on the point system at a board meeting in January.

MEMBERSHIP

Peter is the membership chair. CGC currently has 39 members (five or six from outside of Central Oregon). A membership drive was discussed. Press releases calling for members can be submitted to Cascade A&E, OPA's newsletter, Local Clay's (Eugene) newsletter, Clay Folk's (Medford) publication, ceramic supply store's newsletters (Southern Oregon Pottery Supply, Georgies Clay Supply), Arts Central newsletter, and The Source.

WILDFIRE POTTERY SHOWCASE LOCATION

Locations discussed included Boys & Girls Club of Bend, Bend Armory, and (in the future) the possibility of the Riverhouse's convention center (not yet built). Bob Sant is Wildfire Chair in 2006 and will call a committee meeting to start planning the 2006 Wildfire Pottery Showcase in January, so please attend if you want to help plan Wildfire.

MEMBERSHIP FEE

Peter reported that someone had suggested a higher membership fee. It was decided that a fee increase would best be done when people are knocking down our doors to get in and when CGC has many well-defined projects. CGC needs to concentrate on building membership now, and it was decided to keep the membership fee at $25 per year.

OTHER MATTERS

One member needs someone to sell his work at their Holiday sales, as he has to work weekends and cannot put together his own show . Contact Allan Werkman at itsonlymud@bendcable.com

Ideas for a holiday show in 2006: November Studio Sale with map and hours. Neighborhood Show - a group of houses in upscale neighborhood - several artists in each house. This has been successful in Eugene.

Eleanor reported that the "U" shaped configuration of the group booths at Clay Folk's Medford show made it difficult for artists to talk to potential customers. She encouraged Wildfire to have an open layout of the group booths, with space between each 4 ft segment. Jolene suggested access to both sides of the displays.

Meeting adjourned.

STUDIO TOUR

Mike and Michelle gave us a tour of the wonderful, organized and spacious home studio. Thanks Mike and Michelle!
