Events and Workshops

Save the date: June 4 & 5, 2010
Clay Guild of the Cascades in Bend, Oregon is very pleased to be hosting an all-day workshop with celebrated potter DENNIS MEINERS.
Dennis holds a fine arts degree from Washington State University. He is a well respected instructor and has taught classes at Oregon College of Art and Craft and Portland Community College as well as workshops throughout the west coast.
Dennis’ work has appeared in several books including The Artful Teapot by Garth Clark and Handbuilt Pottery by Kathy Triplett, as well as magazines such as Clay Times, Ceramics Monthly, Ceramic Art & Perception (Australia) and American Craft
"Handbuilding with Handmade Textured Slabs" will explore the textural image-making possibilities that become available when slab making is done by hand rather than with machines like slab rollers, then use those slabs to make utilitarian and sculptural objects.
There will also be some discussion of taking care of ourselves physically and artistically, and glazing approaches to highlight textured surfaces. This workshop is suitable for all levels of experience with clay.
The workshop will take place at Central Oregon Community College on June 5, 2010, and will also include a slide lecture on the previous afternoon, followed by a reception to meet the guest artist.
It is open to anyone interested, and the fee will be $35 for Students and CGC members. $45 for all others.

Get ready for the Minature Clay Show

CGC has been invited to display clay work in the two windows upstairs in the Bend Library. The Show starts Oct and runs thru Dec. This is a great chance to stretch your brain and your creativity because inorder for us to have a good showing we are making it a "Minature Clay Show". All pieces need to be able to fit into a Orton Large Cone box ( 6x3x3). Our "Minature Clay Show" is modeled after the Orton Company's Cone Box Show which they have every two years. You can go to their website to see past participants of their show. Our show is just for our members and for fun. We will put name tags with phone numbers by your piece so if someone wants to buy it, they can contact you and purchase the piece after the show. This is great advertising for us and for our Wildfire Show in Nov.
Please have the pieces to me by the second Mon. in Sept. We are having another "Studio Tour CGC General meeting". The meeting place is my studio at 125 NW Greeley Ave. So come to the meeting and bring your minature!!!!
